Amelia joins Fear No Music, bringing their Locally Sourced Sounds season to a close with a meditation on what it means to be truly local. Musician, educator, author, humanitarian, and Kalapuya Tribal Elder Jan Michael Looking Wolf joins as a very special guest to create new sounds together, combining the musicians of Fear No Music with his unique artistry. Also featuring works by FNM’s own Nancy Ives and Nicholas Emerson.
Amelia Lukas and Yoko Greeney, share an inspired and ethereal program of music that explores composers’ endless fascination with birds, with a feature on composers of the Pacific Northwest and Japan. The highlight of the event will be the premiere of Kirsten Volness’ new work for flute, piano and electronics, Shima Enaga, a piece that draws its inspiration from the iconic “snow fairies” of Hokkaido.

Amelia joins Fear No Music in a concert presenting works by the Iranian Female Composers Association (Niloufar Nourbaksh, Aida Shirazi, and Anahita Abbasi) and Black American composers Brittany J. Green, Jordyn Davis, and Shelley Washington. Amelia stars in the theatrical showpiece, "No, I am Not Roaming Aimlessly," by Anahita Abbasi, a piece based on a poem by 13th century poet, Rumi, and the sincere definition of Sufism. She also joins an ensemble to perform Niloufar Nourbakhsh’s “Aid for Sex,” a chaotic soundscape inspired by a U.N. report detailing the experience of Syrian women and their exploitation at the hand of aid distributers.

Amelia performs principal flute with the Portland Chamber Orchestra in this gala celebration to welcome the New Year. The PCO recalls the music of the Hapsburg Empire when the opera, operetta, waltz, and polka were all the rage in 19th century Vienna. Puerto Rican soprano Camille Ortiz stars in Vienna’s most beloved operatic and concert arias.
Arrive early for a pre-concert waltz lesson in the lobby beginning at 6:30, followed by dancing to live music at 7pm.
This unique event is the perfect way to kick off the holiday season while supporting Ukraine’s defenders and citizens as they fight not only for a democratic future, but for their very existence. Amelia opens the concert with a solo set, with additional performances by Anton Belov, Inna Kovtun, Larry Wilder, and Darka Dusty and Borshch Beatniks, most of whom are Ukrainian. Funds go to DAWN Inc., a 501c3 non-profit organization providing critically-needed medical and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

On this first day of National Hispanic Heritage Month, Amelia performs Natural Homeland, a multimedia, tour de force program of music that deepens emotional awareness around the meaning of home in light of current events. This cohesive and moving modern concert experience weaves together stories of displacement and relocation with themes of hope and inner sanctuary, integrating “a diverse and gorgeous array of music” (Cascadia Daily News) for solo flute, piccolo, alto flute, bass flute, and electronics with beautiful, program-specific lighting, videography, and poetry. Works by Valerie Coleman, Nathalie Joachim, and Adina Izarra pay special tribute to Latino culture.
Amelia will perform solo works by Cascadia Composers President Ted Clifford and Jan Mittlestadt, alongside duos by Betty Wishart and Daniel Gall. A special performance of David Bernstein’s haunting Four Blossoms on a Single Stem for solo piccolo, flute and alto flute will pay homage to the recently deceased composer and Cascadia Composers founder.
